Biography
Samay Raina is a stand-up comedian who became a chess enthusiast and YouTuber with time. Hailing from Jammu, 24-year-old Samay had to flee the city and settle for Delhi as Jammu wasn’t safe anymore after the attack on Hindus. Samay is a printing engineer from Vidyarthi Grisha’s College of Engineering and Technology but couldn’t find his passion. Eventually, he started doing open mics and comic gigs and found his passion in comedy. Samay loves to make his audience and subscribers laugh and always tries to be on the edge and do anything that challenges him. He says that it’s because of these challenges that his life becomes fruitful.
After having a huge response in doing comic shows, Samay Raina was now set to overcome the others. His name became popular and people started loving the way he talks on his shows. His first break was winning Comicstaan season 2 with a cash prize of 10 lakh rupees. However, Samay shared that trophy with another great comedian Akash Gupta, but the cash prize was the same for both of them. And then as we all know, the pandemic hit us and we were forced on a lockdown.
All the live shows and gigs were canceled. Samay couldn’t sit idle, so, after a few suggestions, Samay started playing chess on his YouTube. He started streaming chess and usually played with his initial subscribers. Samay wasn’t here for views, he was here to make something, he didn’t care if his stream had only 20 watchers, he was just there to relax and chat.
Slowly and steadily, it became a thing. Samay’s regular stream sparked an interest among his audience and encouraged him to play chess as well. People started noticing him and big names like Tanmay Bhatt, Abhishek Aupmanyu and Biswa Kalyan Rath also joined him. Samay gained popularity as a YouTuber as well and came under the guidance of chess coach Sagar Shah. Sagar and Samay streamed together and the fans were just loving it.
He then befriended national chess champion Vidit Gujrati and the fans were just loving it. The number of chess players increased exponentially after Samay’s streams and now people wanted more of it. With the money earned from Comicstaan, he bought himself a better laptop and started streaming more often. He even streamed late-night chess for his sleep-deprived audience and still got more than 1000 watchers with every stream.
This was the time when chess giants like Viswanathan Anand, Garry Kasparov, Magnus Carlsen, and many more. Samay started a membership program for his channel to do members-only streams, contests and donated the highest membership package money to a fundraiser. Samay believes donating and helping the needy is what makes him alive. He organized many fundraisers for incidents like Uttarakhand floods, social workers, covid hit people, and many more.
Samay also plays games like human fall flat, PokerStars, WWE, Geoguessr, and more on his channel with Karan Singh Magic, Tanmay Bhatt, Suhani Shah, and GamerFleet. Samay and Tanmay Bhatt are the reason behind GamerFleet’s massive success on YouTube, they both gave him the boost GamerFleet needed who now has more than 1M subscribers on YouTube.
Being a comedian and a chess enthusiast, Samay came up with the idea of COB, which stands for Comedians on Board where all the comedians of India play and compete in chess. His recent COB event is called Comedians on Board all in, which fans are super pumped about. He’s always smiling face and a great sense of humor is what separates him from others and currently, Samay is sitting on more than 700k subscribers.
