Zainab Jah is a British film actress. She is an award-winning theater and television actress and is of Sierra Leonean origin. She is best known for her Broadway performances in Danai Gurira’s Broadway plays Eclipsed (2009), Venus, and School Girl.
Zainab Jah has worked in film and television, including the legal drama 100 Centre Street in 2001. In the second season of Deep State (2019), she plays Aminata an Anti-Corruption Minister. She has acted in the crime drama television series Blindspot (TV series, 2018).
She appeared in the crime drama television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (TV series, 2005). From 2016 to 2017, she played Aby Bah in the espionage thriller television series which is based on the Israeli series Prisoners of War Homeland (TV series), which Gideon Raff created. Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa developed Homeland.
More recently, Zainab Jah acted in Ethan Hawke and Mark Richard’s historical drama miniseries, The Good Lord Bird (2020). The series is based on the 2013 novel of the same name, which James McBride wrote. It centers on John Brown’s attack on American slavery.
In 2021, she had a recurring role in the mystery-comedy streaming television series Only Murders in the Building. The series stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez and received critical recognition, with particular praise for its comedic approach to crime fiction. Both the performances and interest among the lead performers.
Her other film credits include Farewell Amor (2020) and False Positive (2021). She earned the Drama Desk Award for Drama Desk Ensemble Award in 2018. In 2017, she won Audie Award for Young Listeners. She earned the Obie Award for her performance in Eclipsed in 2016.
